Getting to the party from Bunkhouse
Haad Rin is about 15 minutes from the hostel by taxi or scooter.
- Getting there: we organise a transfer from the hostel to the party, ฿150 per person. Ask at reception on the day.
- Getting back: taxis wait at the exit from the beach and run through the night. Expect ฿200–250 per person. We do not run a return transfer, so you can head back whenever you like rather than waiting for a group.
- Before you go: we fire up the BBQ at the hostel on Full Moon nights, so most people eat here before heading over.
Reception also sells tickets and arranges transfers for the island’s other parties, listed further down.
Should you stay in Haad Rin or Ban Tai?
Haad Rin puts you within walking distance of the party. That is the whole argument for it, and on party night it is a real one. The trade-off is the other nights of the month: Haad Rin is built around the event, it is the busiest and most expensive corner of the island around each full moon, and noticeably quieter in between.
Ban Tai, where we are, sits on the south coast between Thong Sala and Haad Rin. You get a calmer base, cheaper beds, local restaurants rather than party bars, the beach two minutes’ walk away, and a 15-minute ride when you actually want the party. It suits people who came for Koh Phangan and want the Full Moon Party as part of the trip, rather than people who came only for the party. More on the island’s areas in our where to stay guide.
What a bed costs on a Full Moon night
A bed is normally ฿400 in low season and ฿500 in high season, which runs roughly December to April. On Full Moon Party and other festival nights the rate is typically ฿1,200–1,500, and New Year is the peak of the year at around ฿2,000.
Full rates are on the rooms page. Entry to the party itself is paid at the beach and is not included in the bed price.
The island’s other parties
The full moon is not the only night out on Koh Phangan. Reception sells tickets and arranges transfers for all of these:
- Half Moon Festival — a two-night electronic music event in the jungle, held around the half moon.
- Jungle Experience — an open-air jungle party with lights and art installations.
- Waterfall Party — several stages beside a natural waterfall, with fire shows.
- OXA Jungle Party — weekly, three themed dance floors, fire performances and visuals.
